It’s not a Race – unless you want to make it one … The Fat Attack concept is to ride as a group, paddle your bikes across the river mouths, stop for pics, refreshments at local trading stations and most of all – just breathe in the beauty of this Eastern Cape coastline. All of this adds up to the most perfect 3-day “chilled out” beach ride one could ever wish for.
If you want to arrive early, you can book in at either Trenneries or Seagulls the night before to ensure you are fresh for the morning start.
Day 1
Seagulls Hotel – just an hour’s drive from East London – is our starting point. We’re on the beach for most of the trip to Kob Inn, running inland from time to time until we get to the Kobonqaba River, and cross at the mouth using whatever flotation devices are handy. If we get the tides right, it’s an easy portage across the mouth.
We pass the village of Cebe, the home of the Great White – Mazeppa Bay, and finally arrive at our beautiful beach house on the banks of the Qora Mouth. This is our home for 2 nights – Great Food & Cold Beers are the order of the day.
Day 2
This is a day of choice, as we have a later start – at 10am we head up the coast crossing the Jujura, Ngadla and turning at the beautiful Shixini Point. Typically after about 3 hours, we arrive back at the Beach house and spend the afternoon at leisure – swimming, snoozing or what most of us never get a chance to do … just Chilling !!
Day 3
An early start along the coast passing through Wavecrest airfield and then into another indigenous forest. A hike-the-bike across the Kobonquaba River and some sandy jeep tracks past the fishing village of Collywobbles and onto the gates of the Qolora River, and finishing at Seagulls.
A hot shower, cold beer and great lunch before preparing for your homeward journey.
